Presentation by Dr. Tara De Silva

On 10 September, thanks to NeuroUtec , which is an organization of students of Bioengineering from UTEC, the presentation was given by Dr Tara De Silva. Dr De Silva is a renowned neuroscientist at the Cleveland Clinic. The paper was entitled “Three-dimensional brain images and unicellular transcriptomics to understand microglial in states of development and disease“, which explores how advanced 3D imaging and unicellular transcriptomics are transforming the study of microglial cells. Through these tools, its key role in synaptic pruning during brain development is analyzed, as well as its involvement in neurodegenerative diseases such as multiple sclerosis and Alzheimer’s. This technological combination allows to unravel the molecular mechanisms behind microglial function and its impact on neuroprotection or neurodegeneration, opening new avenues for targeted therapies in the future
