We share with you in the following note, the experience of student Nelzy Mendoza De La Cruz who had the opportunity to participate in the Matter to Life Undergraduate Research Opportunities (MtL-URO) program at Max Planck Schools in Germany:
I had the opportunity to do my internship at the DWI Leibniz-Institute for Interactive Materials, in the research group led by Dr.-Ing. Laura De Laporte, where advanced biomaterials for tissue engineering are designed. During my stay, I learned how to produce microgels using a microfluidic system and conducted cell trials to investigate the interactions between muscle cells and with the scaffold. This work was part of a project aimed at developing a three-dimensional model of the musculoskeletal system.
I would like to express my special thanks to my advisors, Iris Doolaar and Misael Real-Enriquez, who taught me and trained me with dedication so that I could contribute to the project. The experience of working with a highly qualified international team not only allowed me to acquire technical skills, but also strengthened my ability to conduct independent research. I am deeply grateful for this unique opportunity and the support received from the program, including the scholarship that covered all associated expenses.
Congratulations to Nelzy for this great experience!
