From the Department of Bioengineering and Chemical Engineering, we congratulate Hugo Valdez, a graduate of the Bioengineering program, for his exceptional participation in the event “Together for Health: Promoting Biomedical Innovation with Multisectoral Participation.” He had the opportunity to participate in a panel composed of key players in the Peruvian healthcare ecosystem, including Dr. Kiara Lee, former Minister of Health Patricia García, Congressman Edward Málaga, the current president of Concytec, and the president of the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INS), among others.
During his presentation, he shared some of the most relevant milestones and challenges of HEALER – Digital Wellness Center, the startup he leads. He highlighted the development of its first product, a computer vision-based telemonitoring tool integrated into the HEALER Trace software. He also presented its musculoskeletal rehabilitation code, designed to optimize treatment outcomes for patients. Hugo comments: “Thanks to these advances, we have developed a series of digital health tools that have improved the care and monitoring of our users. We have not walked this path alone. We have the support of bioengineering professors, highly trained specialists in physical medicine and rehabilitation, physiotherapy, and nutrition. In addition, we have been supported by prestigious incubators and institutions such as UTEC Ventures, Zsports Lab, Berkeley VC, Incubando Salud of the Barceló Foundation, Google, and, recently, the Cleveland Clinic.”
